Happy Women’s History Month!!
To me, just like Black History Month, this is something to be celebrated and cherished 365days a year!! As I reflect on all that women do on a daily basis for the world, our homes, education, our children, our healthcare, our military, the entertainment industry, businesses, the advancement of people, the protection of ideas and rights, technological advancement, etc I think about how I am raising two girls right now who will one day become women who will have to navigate this world and all it has to offer. I want them to step out in faith...so in turn I must learn to tackle fear and show them what it looks like to do something even when you are scared. I want them to be loving... so I have to show copious amounts of love towards them and others. Kids do more of what you do than what you’re say. I want them to challenge ideas, stand up for what’s right, and speak up/show they have their own mind... so I have to be willing to allow them right now the freedom of open communication with me and get rid of old school ideas such as children should be seen and not heard. I want them to break glass ceilings if they so choose too but I also want them to know I’ll be proud of them even if they don’t or choose to go a different route. I want them to enjoy what they do and go after their passions... so I have to listen and not have my own agenda for what their career goals should be and what their future life should look like. I want them to believe in the power of God... in his forgiveness, love, and mercy, so I have to be open with them about my imperfections, my poor choices, failures, but that in the midst of it all He still loves me through all my mess.🙌🏽 I want them to travel the world, have a servants heart, and hopefully experience the feeling of falling in love one day... I have to be the example for my girls and even though I don’t think at this point in life I could ever be labeled as “the best” at any one thing or that I’ve arrived by any means...they will know at the very least that their mama is consistent! Slow and steady wins the race. I’m definitely more of the tortoise than the hare when it comes to the way I’ve navigated my life and career but I’m still here chugging along either way!! I’ve grown to understand that success means different things for different people. What God has for me is for me and I only want what he has in store for me!! I’m grateful for the chance and blessing to nurture and teach my beautiful babies how to become THE woman they can be proud of one day!!
